SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN, YOUNG PEOPLE AND VULNERABLE ADULTS
POLICY STATEMENT:
The welfare of the child is paramount for Edenventures CIO.
It is the responsibility of all adults to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at Edenventures.
This responsibility extends to a duty of care for those adults employed, commissioned or contracted to work with children and young people.
All adults, children and young people within EdenVentures have the right to:
Respect.
Tolerance.
Understanding.
Be listened to.
The 2004 Children Act places a duty on organisations and individuals to safeguard and promote the well-being of children and young people. The standards and procedures in this document link into those of Cumbria’s Local Safeguarding Children’s Board (LSCB) procedures and protocols and their response to ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children’ 2010 in addition to those of Cumbria Safeguarding Adults Partnership Multi Agency Procedures and Guidelines 2008 which is concurrent with the 2006 Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act.
UNDERPINNING PRINCIPLES:
Adults who work with children are responsible for their own actions and behaviour and should avoid any conduct which would lead any reasonable person to question their motivation and intentions.
Adults should work in an open and transparent way.
The same professional standards should always be applied regardless of race, gender, sexuality or religious beliefs.
Staff should continually monitor and review their practice.
It is the policy of EdenVentures to work in partnership and collaboration to uphold the right of vulnerable adults to protection from harm and exploitation.

Preventing the abuse and mistreatment of children and young people
Promoting increased awareness and recognition of the issues surrounding the abuse and mistreatment of vulnerable adults
Ensuring that when abuse is suspected, appropriate action is taken to safeguard vulnerable adults from further harm or exploitation
Ensuring that allegations about abuse/mistreatment are investigated thoroughly, efficiently and consistently
Respecting the rights of all people to live their chosen lifestyle with privacy, dignity, independence, choice and fulfilment
